We have seen an increase in women and people in sneakers period. We can blame social media. In large parts it is due to it being easy to snap a photo and upload it for the world to see. People have BEEN, BEEN, BEEN wearing sneakers but social media has somewhat what made it acceptable. Social media has given the okay to wear sneakers and take a picture. There was a time when women would wear sneakers to drive in and when their feet started to hurt but they dare not be photographed in them. But with the surge in social media, we as a people have been able to see others like us who are wearing sneakers and made it personally acceptable for some.
Another burst in seeing sneakers had been Covid-19. Now it’s crazy because this pandemic essentially shut down the world. But it gave people more time to pose for pictures at home or on walks. They are having full on photo shoots at home and in sneakers. During the shut down, we had increased opportunities for people to walk, run, and ride bikes and now they needed new sneakers for it. You grab a pair or two to match your workout gear, then you just keep purchasing because you have realized how cute and comfortable they are.
We have so many sneaker groups online and so many sneaker pages that make it easy to see what you can do with sneakers. Have you ever looked up sneaker hashtags and see how many post online there are. Personally, I think the surge is great because I’m not side eyed as much as before. But it can be a bit more difficult to purchase sneakers like we once did. Either way, sneaker life is in the center or the public’s eye and thankfully social media has made it more acceptable for what was once considered formal events. Just look at the Inauguration of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.
