So, I was texting G.L. Lambert talking about guys and he made a point to say don’t select those who stumble across, choose who you are going after. Then one day it hit me! We need to choose our partners the same way we choose our sneakers. We are not walking in the store and some sneakers fall off the shelf and we say oh okay I will take them home—well if you don’t like them. Selecting sneakers involves you carefully looking at the selection. You look at the styles and the colors. We pick them up and turn them around. In some cases we feel the sneaker-pull the tongue back. We feel the material and the weight before we decided to even try them on. Even if we are pushing online and we want a new release. We scan to see the material, do a 360 view to see all sides and angles of the sneaker. And if you are a lover of the sneakers, you look at the history. Yes, we are very selective when it comes to sneakers.
So as far as a partner and more specifically a man- lets be choosey before we decide that they are one of our favorite pairs. Before we “wear the sneakers” and put them up in our sneaker thrones, we need to look at the options of men who stumble upon us. Now we pick our sneakers first based off of the physical aspects like we often select a man. But it depends what kind of man are you looking for-do you want a trainer/running sneaker type man that you only wear to run your early errands when you don’t look your best. Do you want a classic sneaker man that you know will do rather well in social settings? Do you just want a sneaker that looks nice because it has the air bubbles type man that everyone seems to have? Or do you want a new release/head turning sneaker man that you can take on errands, in social settings, and essentially be a head turner?
We’re past the look you want. Let’s select the comfort and how well they hold up. In order to do that you have to break them sneakers in Sis – ask him questions to get to know him. Find out about how he raised. But most of all you need to know what part of the sneakers make you uncomfortable- you’re red flags. Because if its too many red flags, you know that you’re not going to buy another pair of sneakers where your baby toe is pinched or the patent leather on the toe makes the sneakers tighter and they hurt to wear. Break them sneakers in but make sure they are comfortable, that you feel secure, and protected from the elements. Make sure the craftsmanship on the sneaker is quality and its offering you something.
Ladies let’s do ourselves a favor and do our due diligence. We are so quick to fall in love with the images of the sneakers. Even when we get the sneaker box home and see it up close. Like the Silver Toe Jordan 1’s- I loved them when I saw them. But what about in the near future the silver peels because the sneakers can’t handle my lifestyle. Choose a man who won’t peel or crack under pressure but can deal with your life. You want to test him out, apply pressure to those sneakers when you bend down. I crease mine to see if they can handle the weight of my life. Don’t be afraid to not like the sneaker that everyone else thinks will look nice on you. And don’t wear one that doesn’t fit your feet properly because you stumbled across them on sale or because you were put on by someone.
The shoe laces matter also, we look at all the parts of the sneaker. But what if the way your foot fits into the sneaker it makes them harder to tie-don’t walk around with laces that untie on their own. You have to keep stopping to tie them or tuck them in your sneaker because you wanted them to tie and they won’t stay that way. If the man is inconsistent like these laces or annoying as hell to you like stopping every 5 minutes to fix the laces-CUT HIM OFF. Switching the laces don’t always work either because if they are not the proper length or type to fit the eyelets then that temporary fix doesn’t work either. Don’t wear sneakers that get on your nerves or hurt your feet.
We need to choose a man that offers us all that we desire. But like any sneakers just know it will take time to find the perfect fit. But if the fit is off from the beginning don’t even wear them. If you can see the factory sent one with visible flaws and poor craftsmanship send it back. Most importantly, ladies set the tone for who you want and what you want don’t just take all the randoms who fall into your atmosphere.
